Key Features
Application Management
The platform supports various applications, including reschedule requests, checkout requests, delay applications, penalty waivers, document submissions, and generic applications. Each application type has predefined templates and workflows, ensuring consistency and efficiency in processing.
Digital Workflow: Applications can be generated, submitted, and processed digitally, reducing the reliance on physical documents and in-person court appearances.
Application for Reschedule: Advocates can request a reschedule for a hearing based on availability and preparation requirements, up to 2 days before the hearing.
Application for Checkout: Allows advocates to request a checkout of a hearing in case of last-minute emergencies, starting from 1 day before the hearing.
Delay Application: Advocates can file for extensions on document submission deadlines, and judges can approve or reject these requests.
Penalty Waiver: Advocates can request waivers for penalties imposed by the judge.
Application to Edit Case: Allows advocates to request edits to case details after filing.
Application for Document Submission and Response: Facilitates document submissions and responses to submitted documents.
Generic Application: Allows for filing of other case-specific applications not covered by predefined templates.
Workflow: Each application triggers a defined workflow. Judges can accept or reject applications, with rejected applications requiring a reason. Accepted applications automatically generate the corresponding court orders.
Notifications and Reminders
SMS Notifications: Parties involved in the case receive SMS notifications at various points in the process, keeping them informed of actions they need to take and the status of their applications and orders.
Pending Tasks: The system includes a task management feature that tracks pending actions for all users, ensuring nothing is overlooked.
Submissions Requested by the Judge
Order for Submission: Judges can request specific documents from one or multiple parties at any stage of a case. Each order includes submission and response deadlines, which are configurable based on system setup.
Digital Signature: Orders are digitally signed by the judge and published as PDFs, accessible in the Documents tab of the ‘View Case File’ screen.
Pending Tasks: Document submission tasks are assigned to the appropriate parties, with the status updated as submissions and responses are completed. The relevant reminders and notifications are sent out to the respective parties whenever a task is flagged as pending.
Voluntary Submissions
Application Generation: Advocates can raise applications for voluntary submissions, including necessary documents. Voluntary submissions may be restricted before a predetermined date prior to the hearing, configurable during system setup.
Asynchronous Interactions: This allows for the submission of applications, rescheduling requests, adjournments, and more, with electronic signing (Aadhar-linked) activated for general submissions.
Opposite Party Notification: The opposite party is notified of the submission and may respond with written replies or request an oral hearing.
Response Handling
Pending Tasks: If a response is required from the counterparty, it is flagged as "Response Pending" in the pending tasks, prompting the opposite party to submit a response in either text or e-signed document format.
Response Update: Once a response is submitted, it is marked as "Response Updated."
Delay Application
Request for Extension: Advocates can request extensions for submission deadlines before the due date. The judge can approve or reject these requests, generating orders accordingly.
Ideas for Future Development
UI for Configurable Templates: The current version does not include a UI for configuring order, application, or judgment templates. Future enhancements could introduce this feature, allowing for greater customisation and flexibility.
Application and Order Revocation: Currently, once an application or order is raised, it cannot be revoked. Adding this functionality could provide greater control and flexibility in managing legal processes.
Advanced Document Management: Future updates could include more granular controls for editing and managing case details, including the ability to revoke judgments or reopen closed cases based on new applications or orders.
Automated Rescheduling: Currently, hearing dates close to a voluntary document submission may need manual intervention for rescheduling. Future enhancements could automate this process.
Physical Submission Integration: While the current system does not support physical document submissions by court staff, future versions could integrate this feature, allowing for hybrid physical-digital workflows.
Granular Response Management: The current setup allows for responses to entire documents. A future scope could involve enabling responses to specific sections or parts of documents.
Automated Discretion: Future enhancements might include system-driven decisions on whether a document requires a response, further streamlining the process and reducing manual decision points.
